What is Neurofeedback?

NeurOptimal® is an advanced brain training neurofeedback system.  It is a safe and holistic way of giving feedback directly to your brain, allowing it to auto-regulate more efficiently.  The system gives this information back to your brain in real time, moment by moment, resetting it to the present precisely when it is about to shift states. Over time, the brain then has the opportunity to look at whether these state shifts are useful and desirable — or not.

NeurOptimal® is different from other neurofeedback systems in that it is based on research that your own brain is intelligent and “knows best”.  The system does not force your brain in any one direction.  The provider does not take educated guesses at what your brain needs.  You, the client, are not required to interact with the system but rather you are able to sit back and relax.

Lasting shifts are subtle and cumulative as your central nervous system re-discovers itself and builds upon its innate resources to enhance its ability to self-organize and transform.

What to expect during a neurofeedback session….you are seated in a comfortable chair and the provider attaches two small sensors on the scalp and three ear clips that record brain waves. During the 33 minute session you listen to music with the option of watching a never-repeating fractal image. The music and images respond to your brainwaves, as shift in brain patterns create brief interruptions in the music and display. It is these interruptions that signal the brain giving it opportunity to self-correct into more effective and resilient patterns.

How progress is monitored…During the initial session you will be asked to fill out a checklist of concerns and a tracking progress form that identifies a baseline measurement by looking at frequency, intensity, and duration of your concerns. Each session we will go through some pre- and post-session tracking. Lastly you will be asked to identify personal goals around how you will personally know NeurOptimal® is working. These will be reviewed every 10 sessions.
